Obverse description Boeotian shield depicted facing, rendered in bold relief with the characteristic concave cutouts on each side forming the distinctive figure-eight silhouette. The central boss of the shield is raised and smoothly convex, dominating the field. The incised border follows the irregular outline of the hammered flan. The design is emblematic of Boeotia and served as the principal civic symbol of the Theban league on coinage of this period.
