Beschrijving voorzijde Hermes seated facing right upon rocks, rendered in the round with a youthful, athletic nude figure; he holds a kerykeion (caduceus) in his left hand while his right arm rests at his side. The figure is set within a roughly incuse field typical of Cretan coinage of the period, with the rocky ground line indicated beneath. The style reflects the fine local Cretan engraving tradition of the mid-fourth century BC.

Aanvullende informatie

Sybrita was a Cretan city-state of middling power whose coinage is poorly documented in ancient sources, yet the staters it struck in the mid-fourth century BC are among the more technically accomplished products of the island's mints. Crete in this period sat outside the main currents of Greek interstate politics, which gives its civic coinages an almost insular character — produced for local exchange and mercenary pay rather than broad commercial circulation.

The Svoronos reference places this among a small, well-defined group. Surviving examples are genuinely scarce.
