Leukas was unusual among Akarnanian-region mints in that it functioned as a Corinthian colony while maintaining enough autonomy to produce its own stater series — the city's coins circulated alongside Corinthian issues rather than replacing them. The Pegasi series from this mint spans a wide typological range, and the specific die pairing cataloged under BCD Akarnania 198 is considered one of the more carefully executed strikes of the mid-fourth century issues.

This period corresponds to sustained Athenian and later Macedonian pressure on the western Greek poleis, which disrupted several regional mints entirely. Leukas kept striking.
