背面描述 A bridled horse depicted in a vigorous trot to the right, its tail upright and looped, rendered with naturalistic energy typical of Thessalian equestrian iconography. The ethnic legend ΛΑΡΙ appears in the upper field and ΣΑΙΩΝ in the lower field, divided by the horse, identifying the issuing city of Larissa. The composition fills the flan with confident, fluid engraving. The overall style reflects the accomplished die-work associated with Larissaean silver coinage of the mid-4th century BC.

附加信息

Larissa dominated the Thessalian plain through the fourth century largely through the influence of the Aleuadai, the aristocratic clan whose political maneuvering brought them into repeated contact — and conflict — with Macedon. These staters were struck during the period when Philip II was consolidating control over northern Greece, and Larissa's coinage reflects a city navigating that pressure while maintaining enough autonomy to produce coins of exceptional artistic ambition.

The dies of this series are attributed to engravers working in a tradition closely studied alongside those of Syracuse, and the Thessalian horse reverse places this firmly among the finest civic issues of mainland Greece. The BCD collection, which forms the backbone of serious Thessalian numismatic scholarship, recorded this type with particular attention to die linkage across the decade-long emission.
