| Beschrijving keerzijde | A nude male figure, identified as the hero Herakles or a victorious athlete, reclines to the right in a dynamic pose within a shallow incuse circle. He extends his right arm forward, holding a kantharos (drinking cup), while his left hand rests on his raised knee. A club and a lion skin are discernible beneath his figure in the lower field, attributes consistent with Herakles iconography. The circular Greek legend KPOTΩNIATAΣ runs around the periphery of the design, identifying the issuing community of Kroton. The engraving displays confident, fluid musculature typical of South Italian coinage of the fourth century BC. |
