Reverse description A stag stands in profile to the right, rendered with naturalistic detail including a prominent branching rack of antlers and elegantly elongated legs, set upon a plain ground line. The Greek ethnic legend ΚΑYΛΩN is inscribed along the upper periphery and IATAΣ along the right field, together reading ΚΑYΛΩNIATAΣ, meaning 'of the Kauloniates.' The figure of the stag is rendered in fine relief, consistent with the accomplished die-engraving of Magna Graecia coinage of this period. A decorative cable or wave border encircles the entire design within the coin's irregular flan.
