| Obverse description | Facing Boeotian shield depicted in high relief at center, rendered in the characteristic schematic style of the Boeotian League coinage. The shield's distinctive curved cutouts on either side are clearly articulated, with the central boss rendered as a smooth, convex oval field. The entire device is set within an incuse border that follows the irregular flan, a hallmark of early Classical Greek minting practice. |

The dating of this stater falls precisely within the Corinthian War, when Boeotia allied with Athens, Corinth, and Argos against Sparta — an extraordinary reversal after the two powers had fought side by side at Coronea less than a decade earlier. The League's coinage during this period functioned as a genuine federal issue, with individual member cities ceding monetary authority to the central body at Thebes.
BCD Boiotia 9 is among the earlier die pairings in the series. The Corinthian War ended with the King's Peace of 387 BC, which forcibly dissolved the Boeotian League — making this emission one of the last struck under that political arrangement before Sparta compelled its dismemberment.
