Reverse description A swan stands to the left in a composed, naturalistic posture, its plumage rendered with careful detail typical of Cilician coinage of this period. A fish is depicted to the left of the bird, swimming in the same direction. The entire design is contained within a dotted square border, which is itself set within a shallow incuse square formed by the punch of the reverse die. The Greek inscription MAP appears within the incuse square, serving as an abbreviated ethnic identifying the mint of Mallos in Cilicia. The overall composition is well-centred and characteristic of the refined local coinage of the region.
