Obverse description Bare head of Hera facing right, rendered in fine Classical style with naturalistic modelling of the facial features. The goddess wears a sphendone — a close-fitting cloth headband or hair net — encasing her elaborately braided and knotted hair. A small pendant earring is visible below the ear. The portrait fills the flan with confident, fluid die-cutting characteristic of the Elean workshops of the mid-fourth century BC.
