Obverse description Two kneeling figures in high relief face one another in the field: a gaunt man to the left raises his hands to his skeletal face in despair, while a draped woman to the right wrings her hands in anguish. A human skull appears in the exergue below, and the engraver's name HÖRNLEIN is incised along the lower baseline.

Reverse description A tall obelisk bearing the Saxon state coat of arms rises through the centre of the field, flanked by thorny branches. Inflation price data for July 1923 is inscribed in the field to the left and right of the obelisk, with the designer's initials F.H. below the coat of arms and the inscription SACHSEN DENKMAL along the lower portion of the field.
