Obverse description Square flan with a raised border of beaded or dotted design framing the field. The obverse bears a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in three or four horizontal registers across the square field, reading 'Abu Mohammad Abd Al Muamen Ben Ali, Prince of the Faithful' (أبو محمد عبد المؤمن بن علي أمير المؤمنين). The script is characteristic of Almohad angular Kufic calligraphy, with letters tightly fitted to the square format. No figural imagery is present, as befitting Almohad iconographic convention. The surface shows typical irregularities of hand-hammered production.
