Obverse description The Cuban coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion shows a rising sun over a seascape with a key and promontory, the lower left bears three blue and white diagonal stripes, and the lower right displays a royal palm tree. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a fasces, and flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied at the base, with five five-pointed stars arranged along the lower border. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs across the upper field, while the fineness mark 900 appears to the lower left and FINO to the lower right, all separated by star stops. The design is enclosed within a beaded border.
