| Additional information |
The Souvenir Peso was struck in New York in 1897 to raise funds for the Cuban independence movement, not by any functioning government mint but through the efforts of Cuban exile committees operating in the United States. The "Cuban Revolutionary Government" designation reflects political aspiration more than administrative reality — Cuba was still a Spanish colony when these were produced.
Two die varieties are distinguished primarily by the spacing of the date numerals, with the widely spaced type being the scarcer of the pair.
