Issued to mark the centenary of the Ukrainian People's Republic's first paper currency, the 1917 100 Karbovantsiv — one of the earliest banknotes produced by a Ukrainian national authority. The 2017 souvenir reproduces motifs from that original issue, itself designed under extraordinary political pressure as the UPR scrambled to assert financial and administrative independence from both Petrograd and, later, the advancing Bolsheviks.
Taran and the Kharuk brothers are the National Bank's principal in-house design team, responsible for most of Ukraine's commemorative and circulating output since the mid-2000s. Printed entirely at the Kyiv facility — Ukraine's own security printing works, operational since 1994.
