Zeno's reign bracketed the single most cited date in Western historiography — 476, when Odoacer deposed Romulus Augustulus and stopped bothering to appoint a Western emperor at all. Constantinople's response was studied indifference; the Eastern court had been functionally autonomous for decades, and Zeno simply continued issuing solidi under his own name without interruption. The gold standard held.
RIC X 911 is among the more frequently encountered Zenonian solidi, struck at Constantinople across a fifteen-year reign punctuated by two usurpations — Basiliscus in 475–476 and Marcian in 479.
