| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bust of Valentinian II facing right, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial style characteristic of the Theodosian period. The emperor's effigy is depicted with a string of pearls forming the diadem across the brow, the paludamentum draped over the left shoulder, and the cuirass visible at the chest. The legend D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG runs around the periphery in Latin capitals, interrupted by the portrait. The beaded border frames the entire obverse field, typical of late Roman gold coinage struck at the Thessalonica mint. |
