Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian II, pearl-diademed with pendilia visible behind the ear, draped and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial style characteristic of the Theodosian period. The emperor's youthful effigy is depicted with finely detailed hair arranged in rows of tight curls beneath the pearl diadem, and elaborate paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder with a jeweled fibula. The encircling Latin legend is divided by the bust and reads D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG. A beaded border frames the entire design.
