| Opis rewersu | Two enthroned emperors — Valentinian I and Gratian — seated facing one another at the center of the composition, jointly supporting a globe between them as a symbol of shared universal dominion. A winged Victory hovers in flight above and to the left, extending a laurel wreath to crown both rulers. The reverse exergue bears the mint mark of Treveri, composed of the letters TR followed by a dot, then OB (obryzium, denoting pure refined gold), with a second dot in some specimens, distinguishing two recognized subtypes. The scene conveys the dynastic collegiate rule of the Valentinianic house in the formal hieratic style of late Roman imperial coinage. |
