| Beschrijving keerzijde | The emperor stands facing, head turned to the right, in a frontal military pose. He holds in his right hand a labarum — the Christogram standard — and in his left hand a globus surmounted by a Victory figure, symbolising Roman dominion over the world. The composition reflects the ideological fusion of Christian and imperial iconography characteristic of late 4th-century solidi. The mintmark appears in the exergue, identifying the Heraclea mint, with the surrounding Latin legend RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE proclaiming Valens as restorer of the Roman state. |
