| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valens facing right, wearing a pearl diadem with a prominent rosette at the top. The emperor's portrait is rendered in the late Roman court style with finely detailed hair arranged in rows of beads and a slight beard. A fibula fastens the paludamentum at the right shoulder. The circular legend D N VALENS PER F AVG runs around the periphery of the flan. |
