| Reverse description | Two enthroned and standing imperial figures in full consular robes are depicted facing the viewer: Theodosius II seated on the left and Valentinianus III standing on the right, each holding a mappa in the right hand and a long cruciform sceptre in the left. A star occupies the field between them in the upper register, symbolising divine favour and dynastic unity. The type commemorates the joint consulship of 425 AD, celebrating the legitimacy of the western and eastern courts. The mintmark CONOB appears in the exergue, denoting a gold issue of full weight struck at Constantinople. The reverse legend SALVS REI-PVB-LICAE arcs across the upper field. |
