The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and bears a shield in his left hand, the shield face decorated with a horseman motif. The effigy is rendered in the formal, hieratic style characteristic of fifth-century Constantinopolitan coinage, with fine detail in the helmet plume and armor. The legend encircles the bust within the coin's field. |
