| 背面描述 | The figure of Victory or Constantinople personified stands facing left, helmeted and draped, holding a long staff or scepter surmounted by a globus cruciger in the right hand and a Victory statuette on an orb in the left hand, in imitation of the standard Theodosian solidus reverse type. A large cross on steps or Latin cross appears to the left of the figure. The surrounding legend is a blundered rendition of the votive inscription VOT XXXXZ NVLT XXXX, with a delta-shaped control mark and the mint mark CONOB in the exergue, the latter copied directly from the Constantinople mint prototype to signal gold fineness, despite being a barbarous imitation. The execution reflects the Germanic die-cutter's imperfect familiarity with the Latin script, resulting in garbled and retrograde letterforms throughout. |
