| Obverse description | Facing three-quarter bust of the young emperor Theodosius II, helmeted and pearl-diademed, wearing cuirassed military dress. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder and bears a shield on his left arm decorated with a horseman motif, rendered in the hieratic frontal style characteristic of late Roman imperial coinage. The obverse legend encircles the effigy, identifying the emperor with his full imperial titulature. |
