| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing bust of Emperor Phocas in military attire, wearing a crown surmounted by a cross and adorned with pendilia, with a short bearded effigy rendered in the hieratic Byzantine frontal style. The emperor holds a cross on globe in his right hand and a mappa or eagle-tipped sceptre in his left, dressed in an elaborately detailed consular or imperial chlamys with fibula visible at the right shoulder. The legend D N FOCAS PRP AVI runs around the periphery in Latin capitals, divided between the left and right fields. |
