The empress is depicted in imperial regalia with a heavily jewelled paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. A cross potent appears to the right of the bust in the field. The Latin legend AEL EVDO-XIA AVG runs around the periphery, reading left from the bust break. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A large Christogram (chi-rho monogram) enclosed within a plain circular wreath or ring, the chi-rho rendered with eight radiating spokes terminating in pellets, creating a wheel-like appearance with the rho rising from the centre and alpha and omega suspended from the transverse arms. The entire device rests upon a stepped base. The circumferential Latin legend SALVS ORIENTIS FELICITAS OCCIDENTIS runs continuously around the outer border. The mint mark CONOB appears in the exergue, indicating production at Constantinople to the standard obryzum gold fineness. |
