Obverse description Frontal bust of Emperor Justin II, diademed, draped, and cuirassed, rendered in the hieratic Byzantine imperial style. The emperor holds a Victory standing on a globus in his raised right hand, while his left shoulder bears a decorated shield. The effigy is presented with characteristic frontal rigidity and formal solemnity typical of sixth-century Byzantine coinage. The imperial legend is disposed around the bust in the field.
