| Obverse description | Facing right, pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust of Julius Nepos in three-quarter view, rendered in the late antique imperial style. The emperor wears elaborate beaded armor with pteryges visible at the shoulder, and holds a spear over his right shoulder while a shield adorned with a horseman motif is visible behind. The effigy displays the characteristic frontality of late fifth-century Roman coinage. The circumferential legend reads D N IVL NEPOS P F AVG, separated by the bust, within a beaded border. |
