| Opis rewersu | The emperor Valentinian III is depicted standing in three-quarter view facing right, draped and cuirassed, holding a long standard (labarum) in his right hand and a globus surmounted by a Victory figure in his left hand. With his left foot he spurns a seated bound captive, symbolizing Roman imperial dominion over barbarian enemies. The field is divided by the legend VICTORI-A AVGGG, with the mint mark R-V in the lower field and COMOB in the exergue, the latter signifying gold of standard purity struck at a Western imperial mint under Visigothic authority. |
