| Descrizione del dritto | Frontal facing bust of Emperor Leo III, rendered in the debased Lombard provincial style, depicted with a diademed head adorned with pendilia falling to either side. The emperor is shown with a stylized mustache and large almond-shaped eyes, wearing a chlamys fastened at the shoulder, with a small cross-on-globus held in the left hand visible at lower left. The portrait, while clearly derived from Byzantine imperial iconography, displays the characteristically schematic and flat artistry of the Beneventan mint. The surrounding circular legend reads D N LEO P P AVG. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Central field dominated by a large cross potent on steps, a motif derived from the Byzantine reverse type of the period, rendered in bold relief with a cross-crosslet form atop a three-stepped base. The letter G, denoting the issuing Lombard duke Gregory of Benevento, appears to the left of the cross shaft. The surrounding legend incorporates the mint mark CONOB at lower right, indicating the nominal standard of the Constantinople solidus. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border and reflects the Beneventan imitative tradition of Byzantine gold coinage. |
