He holds a long spear or standard in his right hand and rests his left hand upon a small round shield set at his feet. A radiate nimbus encircles his head, emphasizing his elevated imperial status. The exergue bears the mint mark SMNЄ (or SMNΘ or SMNM depending on officina), identifying the Nicomedia mint, and the surrounding legend reads PRINCIPIVM IVVENTVTIS. |
