Reverse description A nimbed military figure, identified as the emperor in the guise of princeps iuventutis, stands facing left in the field, clad in military dress with a short tunic and pteryges visible at the shoulders and hips. He holds a long spear or standard in his right hand and rests his left hand upon a small round shield set at his feet. A radiate nimbus encircles his head, emphasizing his elevated imperial status. The exergue bears the mint mark SMNЄ (or SMNΘ or SMNM depending on officina), identifying the Nicomedia mint, and the surrounding legend reads PRINCIPIVM IVVENTVTIS.
