Obverse description Facing military bust of Emperor Constantius II, pearl-diademed and wearing a crested helmet adorned with a diadem, clad in cuirass; in his right hand he holds a spear angled diagonally over his right shoulder, while his left arm bears a round shield decorated in relief with a mounted horseman trampling a fallen enemy. The portrait is rendered in the frontal, hieratic style characteristic of mid-fourth-century imperial coinage. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Latin capitals.
