| Reverse description | Constantine I, draped and cuirassed, stands facing left in a commanding posture, extending his right hand to assist a kneeling turreted female figure personifying a city or province. A soldier with a shield presents the suppliant figure to the emperor, while Constantine holds a long sceptre in his left hand. Behind the emperor, a winged Victory stands in the field, reaching forward to crown him with a palm branch, symbolizing divine favour and military triumph. The exergue bears the mint mark SMN, identifying the Nicomedia officina. The reverse legend PIETAS AVGVSTI NOSTRI arcs across the upper field, proclaiming the piety of the reigning Augustus. |
