At centre-right, Constantine I stands facing in military dress, head turned left, holding a transverse sceptre in his left hand and extending his right hand to raise the personification of Constantinople, depicted as a turreted female figure kneeling to his left. At far left, a soldier stands facing, head right, presenting Constantinople to the emperor while bearing a shield in his left hand. At right, Victory stands facing, head left, crowning Constantine with a palm frond held in her right hand while cradling a second palm branch in her left arm. The mint mark SMNP appears in the exergue, identifying the emission as struck at the Nicomedia mint, officina prima. The encircling Latin legend reads PIETAS AVGVSTI NOSTRI. |
