Obverse description Frontal bust of Emperor Arcadius, helmeted with a plumed and pearl-diademed helmet, clad in elaborate imperial armour with a decorated cuirass and paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The emperor holds a spear upright in his right hand, its tip visible above the shoulder, while his left arm bears a shield adorned with a horseman motif. The facial features are rendered in the stiff, hieratic style characteristic of late antique coinage. The encircling Latin legend D N ARCADI-VS P F AVG runs from left to right around the periphery of the flan.
