Obverse description Frontal helmeted and cuirassed bust of Emperor Anthemius, the helmet adorned with a plume and jewelled diadem, the cuirass elaborately decorated. The emperor holds a spear over his right shoulder with his right hand, while on his left arm he bears a shield ornamented with a horseman riding down a fallen enemy, a classic imperial iconographic motif. The legend encircles the bust, rendered in crisp Latin capitals.

Reverse description Two emperors standing facing one another in a symmetrical composition, each gripping a spear with his outer hand while jointly supporting with their inner hands a globus cruciger — a globe surmounted by a cross — symbolising shared imperial authority over the Christian world. A star appears in the field beneath the globe. The mint mark is situated in the exergue below the ground line.
