Obverse description Facing three-quarter bust of Emperor Anastasius I, helmeted and cuirassed, turned slightly to the right. The emperor wears a crested helmet adorned with a diadem, a cuirass with paludamentum, and holds a spear over his right shoulder while a shield decorated with a horseman motif is visible at his left. The effigy is rendered in the formal late Roman imperial tradition with strong frontal emphasis. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N ANASTASIVS P P AVG, identifying the emperor as Dominus Noster, Perpetual Augustus.
