Obverse description A displayed eagle with wings spread and head turned to the left occupies the central field, contained within a beaded inner circle. The bird is rendered in a bold, archaic style characteristic of Renaissance Italian hammered coinage. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner circle by a plain border, reads GVIDVS VBALDVS II, identifying the issuing duke. The coin's irregular flan and variable strike are consistent with mid-sixteenth-century hand-hammered production at the Urbino mint.
