(Translation: Of Florence)
Reverse description Full-length standing figure of St. John the Baptist, nimbed (nimbate), facing forward and dividing the surrounding legend. The saint extends his right arm outward and holds a cross-tipped staff in his left hand, in keeping with his standard Florentine iconographic tradition. A mintmaster's mark appears in the field above the outstretched right arm, varying by year of issue. The figure is rendered in the flat, stylised manner typical of Florentine hammered coinage of the mid-fifteenth century.
