Obverse description The obverse displays a crowned royal cipher consisting of the letter 'C' surmounted by a large open crown, centrally positioned within the field. The device is rendered in relatively high relief against a plain field, with the surrounding legend nearly obliterated due to the counterstamping process. The overall style is consistent with French colonial recoinage practice, in which an original host coin was overstruck with a new type for local colonial circulation.
