Obverse description Central field displays a large crowned royal cipher 'H' beneath an ornate royal crown, flanked by two fleurs-de-lis in the lateral fields and a third fleur-de-lis below, forming a cruciform arrangement of three lilies around the monogram. The beaded inner border encloses the design, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer margin reading HENRICVS 4 D G FRAN ET NAVARRE REX, identifying Henry IV as King of France and Navarre by the Grace of God. The coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan characteristic of hammered coinage of the period.
