Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Duke Charles of Egmont depicted in right profile, mounted on a prancing horse with elaborate caparison, the duke bearing a raised sword in his right hand and shield on his left arm, his plumed helmet prominently rendered in high relief. The horse and rider occupy the full field in the medieval chivalric tradition characteristic of Low Countries silver riders. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the place name NIJMEGEN inscribed in the exergue below a decorative platform. The circumferential Latin legend reads in Gothic lettering around the entire periphery, separated by floral rosette stops.
