Obverse description A tilted heraldic shield bearing the arms of Lorraine, surmounted by a crested helm from which an eagle displayed in full flight issues as the crest. The shield and helm are rendered in the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of late 14th-century Lotharingian coinage. The surrounding field carries the ducal Latin legend identifying the issuer. The composition is centrally placed within the coin's irregular flan.
