| Reverse description | Central field depicts an armored knight on horseback prancing to the right, wearing a closed helm surmounted by a crown and brandishing an upraised sword in his right hand; the horse is shown in dynamic motion with forelegs raised. Beneath the horse, a small rampant lion — the Gelderland emblem — appears in the lower field. Below the horse, a horizontal line separates a small tablet inscribed GST, denoting the County of Zutphen. The surrounding circular legend, in Gothic lettering and separated by pellets, reads TRASFERT ET CONSTITVIT REGNA DE GST, a Scriptural allusion (Daniel 2:21) meaning 'He removeth and setteth up kingdoms.' The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with hammered coinage of the period. |
