| Описание аверса | Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of France (fleurs-de-lis) and Dauphine (with dolphin), enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The shield is surmounted by a crown and flanked by decorative elements in the Gothic tradition of late medieval French coinage. A circular Latin legend in uncial characters surrounds the central device, reading KAROLVS FRAnCORVm REX (Charles, King of the Franks). The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of this period. |

Charles VIII inherited the Dauphiné as part of the French royal domain following his father Louis XI's careful consolidation of provincial territories, and coins of the Dauphiné type continued to circulate under his name throughout his reign. The sun mintmark distinguishing this variety locates production within that regional monetary tradition rather than the central Paris apparatus.
Charles's reign ended abruptly in 1498 when he struck his head on a door lintel at Château d'Amboise and died hours later — leaving no surviving heir and passing the crown to Louis XII.
