| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device consists of a crowned quartered coat of arms bearing the arms of France (three fleurs-de-lis) in the first and fourth quarters, and the arms of Navarre (a chain pattern) in the second and third quarters, the whole surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. The shield is rendered in a bold, slightly rustic hammered style consistent with provincial Béarnais coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading PESSES DE SIES DINERS, denoting the denomination as a piece of six deniers in the local Gascon dialect. The reverse design reflects Henry IV's dual sovereignty over France and Navarre. |
