Tasciovanos ruled the Catuvellauni from roughly the late first century BC, operating from Verulamium — modern St Albans — and was likely the father of Cunobelin, the historical figure behind Shakespeare's Cymbeline. His coinage marks a significant shift in British Celtic minting, adopting Romanized conventions in design and production well before the Claudian invasion. The "Trailing Rein" designation within his silver series refers to a specific die variety distinguished by the treatment of the horse's rein, used by numismatists to organize what is otherwise a typologically dense series.
