Tasciovanos ruled the Catuvellauni from roughly the mid-1st century BC and was almost certainly the father of Cunobelin — Shakespeare's Cymbeline. His issues represent the first sustained coinage program from the Verulamium region, and the bull type specifically appears to have been produced during a period when his authority was expanding toward Camulodunum, territory nominally held by the Trinovantes. Whether that expansion was military or diplomatic is unresolved, but the dual tribal attribution in modern catalogs reflects genuine ambiguity about his political reach at the time of striking.
