The Regni Sussex Ducks type belongs to the coinage tradition of the Atrebates, a tribe with direct continental ties — their ruling dynasty descended from Commios, a Belgic chieftain who served as Caesar's envoy during the Gallic campaigns before defecting and leading resistance against Rome. The "Ducks" nickname is a modern dealer convention referring to the abstract forms visible on this type, which evolved through generations of copying from earlier Gaulish prototypes.
