Cunobelin — Shakespeare's Cymbeline — ruled from Camulodunum (modern Colchester) and became the dominant power in southeast Britain in the decades before the Claudian invasion of 43 AD. His coinage is unusually prolific by Iron Age British standards, reflecting genuine economic sophistication and a wide territorial reach. The bucrania type is among his rarer silver fractions, almost certainly used in high-value small transactions or gift exchange rather than bulk trade.
ABC 2837 is known from a limited die pool, suggesting restricted or ceremonial issue.
